Most Omaha poker players like to play Omaha poker high or Omaha poker low. And, like all other poker games, you need to correct strategy to win in this case. In order to win in these two versions of the game, you either need to have the highest hand, or the lowest one.

It is very difficult to determine the Omaha poker odds because it is extremely tough to determine which combinations would win a player the highest or the lowest odds in a game. The game of Omaha poker is unique in the sense that this is perhaps the only game where players strive to get the lowest combinations because the player with the lowest combination gets a portion of the pot money along with the player who has the highest hand.

The complex calculation of determining your Omaha odds is based on two of the four cards in your hand along with the community cards that the dealer deals. If you are playing the game online, there are many web sites which provide calculators to check your odds. They show you your odds of winning with the cards that you have in your hands.

These calculators also help you calculate the portion of money from the pot you can hope to win with your odds. Unfortunately, these calculators are often not very reliable. This is because, in most cases, the odds they calculate are based solely on the cards in your hands and not on the community cards dealt by the dealer. In North America the Hi-lo version is accepted, where players with the highest and the lowest hands of cards, share the pot.
