Holdem Poker is the most popular variation of the community card game (Poker) played in the poker card rooms or casinos. Its popularity increased tremendously during Millennium year and the credit goes to the media coverage through television, magazines and Internet. In Holdem poker, each of the players gets five community cards in addition to the two hole cards of his/her own and that makes a poker hand. Holdem poker is not a dull card game but it is critical and needs on-the-spot mathematical analysis to fix-up the strategies. The two cards, with which a player starts the game, make it more interesting as the other cards are distributed among the players. Betting is done according to the cards obtained by a player and winning is absolutely a matter of luck and chance.

There are many articles about the history of poker but here is a basic summary. In the year 1967 a team of Texan Gamblers introduced Holdem Poker in Las Vegas, which gradually became popular as a strategic game. Initially the only casino which offered Holdem Poker was Golden Nugget Casino of downtown Las Vegas but it failed to attract a good number of clients from the upper crust of the society. About Five Card Stud

At one time 5-card stud was the most popular poker game being dealt. It was started in New Orleans and moved up the Mississippi on the steamboats and moved out west with the gold rush and the end of the Civil War. The game is rather simple to play and does entail some bluffing, as the hand possibilities are easy to read. It is played with one card dealt face down and four cards dealt face up. The betting starts after the first two cards are dealt and continues after each of the other three are dealt. This game is the game that is played in the movie Cincinnati Kid. (more…)

The Poker River Card

If you play a lot of poker but you are unfamiliar with some of its terms this article is about the river card. In poker the river card is the last communal card to be dealt out by the dealer. This card can often make or break a players hand so players with good high pocket cards often like to hold on to their cards until this card is dealt out. Many a game has been won on the river card by the player holding a hand that is entirely dependent upon the final card. In poker terms when this happens the unfortunate loosing player is said to have “drowned in the river”.
