Table Position

Posted by admin | September 25, 2008 | Posted in: Strategy | Comments (0)

Table position if all about where you are sitting with regard to the first player to act and the last player to act. The closer you are to the first player to act, the better hand you should have to call or raise. The closer you are to the last person to act, you can play the lower value starting hands. This is important due to the tendency of players with big hands to raise in early position and people with smaller starting hands to play when close to the last acting position. Small pairs and small suited connectors increase in value as a starting hand when there are no raises and you are near or in last position. This all has to do with seeing the FLOP for as low a cost in chips that you can get. You do not mind taking a shot with a pair of threes for just the cost of the blinds. On the other hand calling a big raise with the same hand is not percentage poker.

Being in or out of position is all relative to where the bets are coming from and the table position you have in relation to the last possible bet. (more…)

Razz poker is a form of stud poker and is quite similar to the seven card stud. Most of the rules of the latter also apply in razz with a few changes. Razz, with its popularity was included in the World Series of Poker games in 1973 and generally is played as a limit poker game. In Razz, everyone is supposed to put in their ante before the cards are dealt. Each player is dealt two cards face down and one face up called the door card. The gambler with the highest door card has to start the bet which is generally one third to one half of the regular bet. If two players have the same door card, then the suit determines the first better. (more…)
