How to play Omaha HiLo

Omaha HiLo is a version of Texas Holdem that can have two winners in any given pot. The high hand is always a winner. There can also be winner on the low side if the hand is made up of cards below nine and no pairs. The best low hand is Ace, two, three, four and five and that is the hand that every player wishes to end up with at the end of the betting round.

Each player can end up with both a high hand and a low hand from the four cards they are dealt at the beginning of the hand and the five cards that are dealt to the center of the table and referred to as the FLOP. The five card FLOP is common to all hands and can make or break a hand when the Turn card or the River card is dealt. Omaha HiLo is a game with a great deal of gamble.

Because there can be two winners, the players who are hoping to make the low hand have a tendency to stay through the last card. If the low is missed the high hand wins the entire pot. If the low hand is made the pot is split between the high and the low.

The best starting hand is two Aces and a deuce and a three that match the two Aces. This gives the player a number of outs for very good high and low hands. Of course this hand could miss on both counts and there is never a sure thing.

Each player is dealt four cards to start the hand and a round of betting follows. Three cards are dealt into the center of the table and another round of betting follows. The Turn and the River card follow with a round of betting following each card. The betting can become very heated as the players gamble on the cards in the FLOP making their hands at the end of the hand. This makes for some very good pots and if you happen to win both the high and the low with what is called a Scooper, you can end up well a head at the end of the session. The one rule in Omaha is that you must use two cards out of your hand for either side of the pot.
