How Omaha Poker is different from other games

Omaha is a popular poker game. It s derived from Texas holdem but very different while you play poker. Omaha is played in varied ways from place to place. In North America the Hi-lo version is accepted, where players with the highest and the lowest hands of cards, share the pot. While in Europe the poker game is referred as Omaha-Hi and the player with highest cards wins the pot. Generally, the Hi-lo version is played with fixed limits where the betting stakes are fixed. Whereas the Omaha hi is played with pot limits i.e. no fixed stakes. In a game of Omaha poker one can make a huge fortune as well as great losses during the play. Omaha poker is different in a number of ways from the other online poker games. Let us take you through these differences to help you understand this game better
The main structures of most of other poker games are similar to Omaha holdem. The main difference lies in the hole cards. In Texas holdem poker, each player receives two hole cards and uses the community cards to make the best combination of five cards. Whereas in Omaha, each player is provided with four hole cards. A player must use only two from the four hole cards and combine with the community cards to create the best hand of cards. Omaha can be either hi or low whereas Texas holdem is always played as hi, so the winner with the best combination of five cards wins. In Omaha the best combination of cards are generally of flushes and straights. The best combination being 8, 7, 6, 5, and 4 in case of Omaha lo and 5, 4, 3, 2 and ace in case of Omaha hi.

In general, one must draw both high hands and low hands in order to win the round. In holdem, one must only aim for the high hands. Draws are more common in Omaha than Texas because of the four hole cards.

7 cards Stud is quite different from Omaha. Here there is no concept of a button. The betting starts from the person with the lowest board cards. Unlike Omaha, in 7 cards stud, 7 cards are dealt to each player, from which they are supposed to make the best hand of five cards. There is no concept of community cards in this one.

The basic difference between Razz poker and Omaha is that in Razz flushes and straights are not given any ranking. Only the lowest combination is declared the winner in Razz whereas in Omaha has both hi and lo versions. In Omaha the lowest hands cannot be higher than 8 but the rule does not suffice in Razz and any hand is liable to win.

These were the basic differences of Omaha with some of the other games. The strategies and number of hole cards are mainly different, the rules of the game remains the same. http://www.play-poker-site.com
