During the American Civil War different variations of the original game of poker came into being, stud poker being one of them. The original inventors of the stud games, 5 and 7 card, are supposed to be the studs or cowboys of Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. The 7 card stud poker was introduced to the world of poker in the early 20th century. It started on a high note of popularity and continued to remain the most popular poker game till the late 20th century. 7 card stud poker remained the most popular casino card game till as late as the 1980s. It was at this time that Texas Hold ’Em poker was introduced to the casinos and it went on to become the most popular casino card game and still remains so. However, if you look at the poker tournaments around the world, the World Series of Poker for instance, you will find that almost all the games have some elements of 7 card stud poker in them.
