Poker Tournament Types

There are a few different types of poker tournaments; they are made different by their betting structures. The difference between limit and no limit games is the amount each person is allowed to bet at any one time.

Limit:
In a limit game a betting limit is maintained throughout the poker tournament. Players must bet a predetermined fixed amount for each round.

Pot Limit:
Players can bet an amount equal to the pot size, Pot Limit games are often abbreviated to “PL”.

No Limit Poker Tournaments:
When playing in No limit tournaments you are playing with chips, these chips represent your buy-in money and the overall pot. As the name suggests in no limit tournaments there is no limit to the amount a person may bet, players are allowed to bet all of their chips at any time. (more…)

About Five Card Stud

At one time 5-card stud was the most popular poker game being dealt. It was started in New Orleans and moved up the Mississippi on the steamboats and moved out west with the gold rush and the end of the Civil War. The game is rather simple to play and does entail some bluffing, as the hand possibilities are easy to read. It is played with one card dealt face down and four cards dealt face up. The betting starts after the first two cards are dealt and continues after each of the other three are dealt. This game is the game that is played in the movie Cincinnati Kid. (more…)

The expression of the fish and shark is very much associated with poker.

Any game of poker be it holdem, omaha, razz or another stud or draw game is really very strategic to play and just like all games of strategy in the game you will certainly find out that there are some weak and strong players. Last year, Absolute Poker released a new 8.0 version of their software. Since then, it has won awards for the software that has improved their player base. Automatic updates are sent directly to you if you have their software downloaded. There’s some bad news for Mac and Linux users, though. They are only able to play through the instant play option.
